KENNEDY SPACE CENTER'S UNWORLDLY JOURNEY (彭蒙慧英語) 11/24
Today I read KENNEDY SPACE CENTER'S UNWORLDLY JOURNEY (彭蒙慧英語) on 11/24. It is about the comparisons between "Mission: Space" at Walt Disney World and Shuttle Launch Experience. 1. "Mission: Space" is the first high-tech space ride. 2. While "Mission: Space" is one facet of a generalized theme park, Shuttle Launch Experience is a magnet to the enthusiast of the space. 3. Mission Space uses centrifugal force to create the sensation of increased gravity forces. The Shuttle Launch Experience uses the pneumatic deflating device in the seat. After reading the article, I feel a strong respect toward the Kennedy Space Center because they creat such a meaningful device for us to experience what it is like in the space. KENNEDY SPACE CENTER'S UNWORLDLY JOURNEY (彭蒙慧英語) 11/23
Today I read KENNEDY SPACE CENTER'S UNWORLDLY JOURNEY (彭蒙慧英語) on 11/23. It is about the first thill ride, Shuttle Launch Experience, opened in May 2007 by the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. For those who wander what it is in the space, the thill ride is the best choise. The pneumatic seats, low frequency speaker, mechanical shakers, senation of weightless, view of the whole of Italy and so on make space "tourists" feel like in the space. The main purpose of the Shuttle Launch Experience is to connect with today's youth, raise the interest of youth and lure them into deeper study of science and math. After reading the article, I have a deep impulse to try the Shuttle Launch Experience and appreciate the breathtaking view in the space. THANKSGIVING IN AMERICAN MEMORY
Today I read THANKSGIVING IN AMERICAN MEMORY (彭蒙慧英語) on 11/22. It is about how Thanksgiving become an official holiday. At the beginning, the first American president, George Washionton proclaimed November 26th to be a day of national thanksgiving and prayer in 1789 with the Congressional requst. However, Thanksgiving didn't become an annual tradition at this time. During the American Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed the last Thursday in Novomber to be Thanksging Day. After the war, Thanksgiving finally become a national holiday, which continues to this day. After reading the article, I finally understand how Thanksgiving become a national holiday because in the past I could only read the introduction of customs of Thanksgiving. Here is its website:http://www.studioclassroom.com.tw/ad/ad_article.php?article_id=11a08&volume=2007-11-01&zoot=08
THANKSGIVING IN AMERICAN MEMORY
Today I read THANKSGIVING IN AMERICAN MEMORY (彭蒙慧英語) on 11/21. It is about the introduction of source of Thanksgiving with proclamations which was issued in 1782 named "the October 1782 decree". With the recommendation of the Continental Congress, Thanksgiving was set aside Thursday, December 18 "for Solemn Thanksgiving and Praise" by George Washington, the commander-in-chief of the Continental forces. After reading the article, I can deeply feel how long the history of Thanksgiving is and how the American people respect Thanksgiving by issuing so many proclamations and setting the holiday of it. I have not have a real Thanksgiving yet, but I think it is great to have it by understanding it. FROM CYBERSPACE TO STOREFRONT
Today I read FROM CYBERSPACE TO STOREFRONT (彭蒙慧英語) on 11/20. Setting up a brick-and-mortar is expensive. Rent, archiatects, interior designers, and so on all cost money. Moreover, merchants can set up shop online with merely a dozen items. That is why most people choose to open online shops. However, Chris VanDyke does not think so. He opened an outdoor apparel start-up,Nau Inc., so called "webfront" in Chicago. This boutique only carries enough merchandise to allow shoppers try on items and gauge the fit. The idea is to encourage shoppers to research and order Nau's products ditectly from the computer kiosks in the store. Just like consultant Lauren Freedman said "The bottom line is, the portability of a catalog won't go away and the tactile component of a store will always exist." After reading the article, I think thess online retailers are really smart. Though they open brick-and-mortar shops, their ultimately aim is to prompt the distribution. FROM CYBERSPACE TO STOREFRONT
Today I read FROM CYBERSPACE TO STOREFRONT (彭蒙慧英語) on 11/19. It is about online retailers now beginning to open brick-and-mortar stores, establishing a physical place where shoper can touch the merchandise and talk to the sales clerks. The reasons why they do this are: observing and talking to shoppers, testing products and reaching new customers. Just like Reinier Evers of Trendwatcging.com said "We still live in a world that values the physical over the virtual." After reading the article, I felt great that though online stores are very convenient, they finally have to expand by opening stores we can walk into. LUOL DENG: INTERNATIONAL MAN OF BASKETBALL
Today I read LUOL DENG: INTERNATIONAL MAN OF BASKETBALL (彭蒙慧英語) on 11/17. It is about Luol Deng's latest development. Luol Deng bacame a serious student of basketball while at Blair Academy and Duke University. Just like his former Duke teammate said "When [Deng] got to Duke as a freshman, he was as mature as most juniors or seniors. He was the hardest working guy on the team." Now Deng's is back in Sudan and is playing a significant political role in the peace process. Luol Deng and his father are forming a foundation to help children in Sudan and they hope to be with the U.N. . After reading the article, I think that Luol Deng is very great person. He is not only successful in basketball but also successful in philanthropy. Because Luol Deng does not only think of himself but think about those who is like what he used to be. LUOL DENG: INTERNATIONAL MAN OF BASKETBALL
Today I read LUOL DENG: INTERNATIONAL MAN OF BASKETBALL (彭蒙慧英語) on 11/16. It is about Luol Deng how to learn excellent basketball skills from others. Though being a member of Dinka tribe, Luol Deng's family lived in the nation's capital Khartoum and then moved to Egypt. There, Luol Deng hung around and watched his old brothers and other member of the Sudanese community playing basketball. One summer, these boys were tough basketball fundamentals and some skills by Manute Bol who is also a member of Dinka tribe. Luol Deng's brother, Ajou, started to teach him after Manute Bol left and suggested Luol Deng would benefit a from going over at an earlier age. Thus, Luol Deng and his sister, Arek who is now playing professionally in France, enrolled Blair toghter. After reading the article, I think that a person who want to succeed must gain helps from many people. Therefore, one shell be humble and grateful to everyone. LUOL DENG: INTERNATIONAL MAN OF BASKETBALL
Today I read LUOL DENG: INTERNATIONAL MAN OF BASKETBALL (彭蒙慧英語) on 11/15. It is about the Chicago Bulls basketball star Luol Deng's brief autobiography. Luol Deng's recallation of first time to touch a basketball was that the backboard on the ragged outdoor court by a church and the rim was barely attached. Absolutely, he didn't like it. However, a friend from Manute Bol and nine of his brothers made him begin to be one of member in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Nowaday, Luol Deng loves basketball and views it as a hobby. Luol Deng's father was once a minister of transport before the government was overthrown in civic war. They was forced to flee to Egypt then Luol Deng was 5. After reading the article, I think a successful person is not easy to become what he is now. There must be a long way for him to go. Oh! I can't wait to see how Luol Deng can become what he is now. Here is its website:http://www.studioclassroom.com.tw/ad/ad_article.php?article_id=11a06&volume=2007-11-01

NEWSWORTHY CLIPS →Project aims to prove coal can clean up its act(彭蒙慧英語)11/14
Today I read NEWSWORTHY CLIPS →Project aims to prove coal can clean up its act(彭蒙慧英語) on 11/14. It is about the a new coal gasification demonatration plant using the technology ingegrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) and designed by Mitsubishi promises to solve the problem of the ages for power plants: how to produce cheap, clean, reliable electricity. However, the new power cannot do all three perfectly because it costs about 20 percent more than traditional plants. Though NGE chief executive David Crane thought the additional cost of IGCC is commercial suicide, a manager at Mitsubishi didn't think so: "It's goog for a company to say we want to be green, but unless someone is willing to pay, it's a dream. It won't keep your family eating good." After reading the article, I feel so great that people are really thinking ways to solving the global warming. Althouth the technonlgy is not ripe, I think it is a good start and I look forward to a future without any pollution. NEWSWORTHY CLIPS→LED technology could replace kerosene(彭蒙慧英語)11/13
Today I read NEWSWORTHY CLIPS→LED technology could replace kerosene (彭蒙慧英語) on 11/13. It is about a fledgling five-employee company's founders who are brainchild of Stanford graduates named Goldman and Tozun. They hope to sell low-cost LED to prople in homes not supplied with electricity which are estimated about 1.6 billion in the world. In Southeast Asia, the energy expense of their income is 10 to 15 percent, mostly to buy kerosene. Compared with kerosane, d.light runs on a high-capacity battery, is the equivalent of five kerosene laterns and causes none of kerpsene's side effects, such as pollution. After reading the article, I think the company's focus on changing the poors' life from lamp is very great, for it bring economic light to the poors. NEWSWORTHY CLIPS →Opera singer Beverly Sills dies at 78(彭蒙慧英語)11/12
Today I read NEWSWORTHY CLIPS →Opera singer Beverly Sills dies at 78 on 11/12. It is about a American power house soprano, arts administrator and fundraiser named Beverly Sills died recently of lung cancer. In addition to her triumphant operatic career, her fundraising were legendary. After marrying Peter Greenough, they had one daughter, Muffy, and one son named Peter Jr. .Unfortunately, Muffy was born deaf and Peter Jr. was autistic and epileptic. For this, Sills did not sing for a few years. Also, Sills was a innovator in the often stodgy world of opera, like what she said "I do not think that opera is for the elite." After reading the article, I admire the outstanding woman from my deepest heart no matter for she is a opera singer or a fundraiser. I think that it is her warm and sparkling personnality that enables her to get throuth the touth times. RECYCLING TURNED UP A NOTCH
Today I read RECYCLING TURNED UP A NOTCH on 11/10. It is about the prcedure of how is the recycling doing. Because most of the old electronics stored much information are from large companies, the recyclers need to keep track of each old product from start to finish. And by doing this, it is a responsible attitude both for data security and for the environment. Also, the recycling processes must have certification from International Stardards Organization for many firms in European. The reason for it is that much materials used in electronic devices are toxic, and it is definitely a hazard if these things were buried in landfill without proper disposal. After reading the article, I understand that how the recycling is important to our environment, because it prevents the toxic things from threatening our health and helps materials to be kept using. Here is its website:http://studioclassroom.com/ad/ad_article.php?article_id=11a04&volume=2007-11-01
RECYCLING TURNED UP A NOTCH
Today I read RECYCLING TURNED UP A NOTCH on 11/9. It has a brief introdition of American recycler. For example, Brian Brundage's, a U.S. recycler in Chicago, they break old products on a disassembly line, breaking each item down to raw materials and send them off to be smelted and refused. However, according to experts' esitmation, there is only 10 to 15 percent of electrionic waste being recycled, most of it coming from large companies and governments. Besides, comparing with European countries, the article also mentioned that it is large corporations that are at the forefront in pushing for electronics recycling in America. After reading the article, I think that recycling really benefits environment a lot, for it helps garbage transform to gold. I can't wait to read the following article! KEEP ON EXERCISING, BUT BE SMART(彭蒙慧英語)11/7
Today I read KEEP ON EXERCISING, BUT BE SMART on 11/7. It is about there are still many benefits to do exercise though some injuries may happen. Here the article has Arnold Schwarzenegger' exemple. He is one member of America's baby boom generation which are past 40 but insist on playing like they are in their 20s. Then the article provide some tips for exercising safely on 11/8. I felt that the article is very fashion for though everyone is awared of the impotance of exercise, they are also afraid of the injouries brought by it. SAVING SOUTH AFRICA'S WILDLIFE(彭蒙慧英語)11/6
Today I read the following article of SAVING SOUTH AFRICA'S WILDLIFE on 11/5. It is about how the people who run the business of esotourism do their best to save the wildlife in South Africa. For example, Walker and his wife Conita who opert a Rhino Museum have rescued many rhinos for several years. Some game farms such as Ka'ingo specialize in crocodiles, elephant, and so on. "We're trying to manage the property back to untouched bushveld. That's our aim.", just like Ka'ingo's manager said. After reading the article, instead of keeping develoing "economy", I see that there are still some people who really care about the Mother Nature in a permant way, not just waiting for almsgiving. Today I read and listened to "Saving Soutf Africa's Wildlife" on 11/5 Advance. The article is about a man named Nick Callichy and his wife establish the Ka'ingo in Waterberg Mountain region. The Ka'ingo is kind of ecotourism that have re-introduced lions, rhinos,Cape buffalo or elephants to the Waterberg Mountain region. In 19th, Waterberg Mountain region was a retreat for big-game hunters and out laws, but in the 1900s it turns into ecotourism. After reading the article,I had a brief understanding of ecotourism and looked forward to 11/6 about deeper introduction of it.
